Any website owner or WordPress administrator undoubtedly received the classic SEO/website development spam. This has become an epidemic of unsolicited emails originating from India. When one of these unwanted e-diatribes find their way into an inbox or a WordPress blog, one will read, in very broken English, a promise of amazing, never before achieved results for SEO and cutting edge design for websites. Here is an example site, courtesy of my future victim
Unfortunately, most of these self proclaimed professionals have very poor design skills, if any, should they actually provide the promised service once your money is sent.
I received the following email not once but three times from the same person. Therefore, I decided to dust off my scam baiting skills. Ultimately, I used several different aliases along the way and those special characters, who reside only in the deeper regions of my mind, had a lot of fun playing with an unsurpassed fool. There were two different email addresses used by this spammer. One a female named: using the names Awantika Srivastava and Surachi as well as my main fool a male named: abhishek kumar
Note: This is part one of a four part series, where I simultaneously played the same SEO spammer using different characters. They are as follows:
Below is the initial email I received three separate times. The first two, I deleted. The third made me decide to have some fun.
Spammer Awantika sends a typical SEO spam email to Howard Artom
Hope you are well. I am Awantika, Website Development Manager.
I got your email address and I would like to discuss a Business with you.
Would you be interested in a possible re-designing of the site or additional feature that might benefit the overall usability and user experience which usually leads to better sales?
A website determines the brand of a firm in the online world. There has been a shift in the way sites are designed and used to the benefit of the company and not just online visiting card for the company. The field has grown since you last updated your website as per available records in Domain tools.
Do let me know if you are interested and I will be happy to explain this in greater details.
We are looking forward to a long and fruitful business relationship with you and your company.
I look forward to your mail.
I simply pretended to act like she was looking for my services and wrote a routine email. She was supposed to disappear after that. Unfortunately, she had no clue what I was saying
Howard Artom to Spammer Awantika
Author’s Note: I pretend I am clueless and pretend I misunderstood her email. I act like she wants me to design her website
I would be happy to discuss the re-design of your website. I rate is $40 per hour. Please leave me your phone number and a good time to call. Also, please give me the address of your website and I will give my opinion on what needs to be done.
Still persistent Anatawa decides to continue to pursue me as a customer. Not bothering to change her email address, she clams to be someone from a different department named Suruchi. I was getting mildly annoyed but realized that I may be able to take this one for a ride. Then again, I decided to ignore this email, the first time it came. But not the ones that preceded.
